What is Lawn Scarification?
Lawn Scarification refers to the process of removing 'Thatch' from the lawn in order to aid healthy and even growth throughout. 'Thatch' is the build up of organic material such as moss, leaves and dead grass. Although a thin layer of thatch can be beneficial to lawns in some instances, periodic removal of thatch is essential to promote thickness and the overall wellbeing of your lawn.
A scarifier also known as a de-thatcher is a machine with blades that cuts through the turf, removing moss, dead grass and other debris. It aerates and helps to revive a tired or spongy lawn. As the scarifier blades, remove weeds and cut into the soil, they also help to aerate it, giving you a much healthier lawn. Lawn rakes have sprung metal tines that comb the lawn vigorously, teasing out moss, thatch and horizontal grass stalks. Aerators create holes in the soil, letting air down to the roots of the grass.
